Saint Augustine Baking

St. Augustine Baking is the result of a baking hobby gradually getting out of hand. August Vanderdonckt has been baking on and off for years. What started with one loaf on weekends has since evolved to baking 8 to 12 loaves each weekend. All breads are naturally leavened (using his own sourdough starter) and most breads are mixed and shaped by hand. August puts a lot of love in his breads and paired with some fresh butter, a slice of heaven is created.

Sourdough Starter

All breads are made with Vanessa, the name of August's sourdough starter.  Vanessa is on a strict diet of all purpose flour, rye flour and water. She is fed once a day, Thursday through Sunday. All other days, she fasts while chatting up the produce in the fridge. Vanessa also has a twin brother called Bruno. Bruno's sole purpose in life is to serve as backup in case Vanessa hits the pearly gates. Bruno leads a very secluded life and has started speaking with a French accent out of pure boredom.  We like monsieur Bruno, ronron.
